Right to Information (RTI)

Fundamental Right

What is RTI?

Under Article 19-A of the Constitution of Pakistan, RTI (Right to Information) is a fundamental right of every citizen to have access to information in all matters of public importance, subject to reasonable restrictions imposed by law.

A citizen can seek information from any government department or a private body substantially financed by the government. RTI is based on the principle that citizens, being taxpayers, are the owners of public information. It promotes transparency, accountability, eliminates corruption, and improves public service delivery.

Benefits of RTI

How RTI Can Help You?

The information obtained through RTI enables citizens to:

  • Hold public officials accountable for their actions
  • Comment on their performance
  • Conduct surveys and identify gaps in public institutions

The government also benefits by becoming aware of weaknesses, while public officials can perform their duties more efficiently and transparently.
